How to Create a Screenshot

We all know that a picture is worth a thousand words.  A screenshot is a picture of what is currently on your screen.  Have you ever experienced a problem with a software product and tried to describe to the IT guy what you saw? That's one situation when it is better to be able to show rather than tell.

Making a screenshot is really easy.  Here's how it's done.

1. Use the Print Screen button to capture the current screen.  Do this by pressing the PrtScn button (usually its located on the top right portion of your keyboard)

2. Open Microsoft Paint by clicking Start > Run and typing "mspaint"  (without the quotes) then click OK

3. After Microsoft Paint opens up hold down the control key Ctrl and press "V" at the same time.  This will paste the screenshot as an image file.  All you have to do now is to save the file somewhere where you can find it. Do this by clicking File > Save As

Note: By default Microsoft Paint will save files as .bmp file (bitmap).  It is usually better to select another file type such as .jpg or .jpeg instead as these file types are much smaller and easier to email as attachments.
